Safety & SWMS

Zero‑harm mindset with practical controls. WA standards, clean sites, professional delivery.

Our approach to safety

We plan the work, brief the team, and verify controls at the face. Every task is covered by an appropriate SWMS with the right people signing on. Supervisors monitor conditions and stop work if controls aren’t effective.

What is a SWMS?

A Safe Work Method Statement sets out the high‑risk construction tasks, hazards, and the specific controls that will be used to eliminate or minimise risk. It’s a living document – briefed before work, referenced during, and updated when conditions change.

  • Describes task steps and associated hazards
  • Specifies controls (engineering, administrative, PPE)
  • Includes competency, plant, permits & inspection requirements
  • Worker sign‑on and supervisor verification

How we control risk

Hierarchy of Controls
Eliminate where possible, then substitute/isolate/engineer; admin & PPE only as supporting layers.
Prestarts & Toolbox Talks
Daily brief with hazards, changes, permits, weather, services and take‑5s.
Training & Competency
Tickets, VOCs and inductions verified. Only competent operators on plant.
Services & Permits
DBYD, isolation, confined space, hot‑works and local council requirements.
Plant & Equipment
Prestart inspections, guarding, reversing cameras/spotters, exclusion zones.
Environment
Sediment control, spill response, dust/noise management, tidy sites.
Supervisors have the authority to stop work where controls are not effective or conditions change.

Typical SWMS we use

Stormwater & Soakwells

  • SWMS‑001 Trenching & Excavation
  • SWMS‑002 Pipe Laying & Backfill
  • SWMS‑003 Handling Precast Units

Sewer

  • SWMS‑004 Confined Space (if required)
  • SWMS‑005 Live Service Avoidance
  • SWMS‑006 House Connection / P9 Works

General

  • SWMS‑007 Plant Operation & Spotting
  • SWMS‑008 Manual Handling
  • SWMS‑009 Traffic / Pedestrian Management

SWMS are reviewed at mobilization and whenever conditions change. Worker sign‑on is collected daily.

Reporting & continuous improvement

Incidents, near misses and hazards are reported promptly to the supervisor. Corrective actions are tracked and discussed in toolbox talks. Photos and notes are stored with job records to support quality and learning.
